TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL | EVOLVER: A VIRTUAL REALITY JOURNEY OF LIFE AND BREATH

The world premiere of EVOLVER: A Virtual Reality of Life and Breath happened last Thursday in the Tribeca Immersive: Main Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival. The experience, narrated by Cate Blanchett and directed by Marshmallow Laser Feast, is live now through June 19th at 120 Broadway in New York.

EVOLVER is a collective virtual reality experience that follows the flow of oxygen through our branching ecosystem to a single ‘breathing’ cell—making the connection between breath, life, and the natural world clear, through the cycle of respiration. Executive produced by Edward R. Pressman and Terrence Malick, featuring music by Jonny Greenwood, Meredith Monk, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Howard Skempton, and Jon Hopkins, the experience invites you to explore yourself, and discover that just under your skin you are a branching being made of rivers, whirlpools, and ripples in the tides of existence.

“At a time when women’s reproductive rights are coming under attack, and the planet is under climate duress, the use of an immersive visual medium to show the immutable relationship between how we treat the female body and how we treat the planet is needed more than ever. Bia-Echo is thrilled to support this project, as we believe it has the power to awaken the restless spirit to a greater truth about our existence, and the interwoven web between humans and the natural world,” says Nicole Shanahan of Bia-Echo Foundation.
